A Day in the HVAC Field Keeping Central Florida Comfortable

Early Morning Prep

My day as an HVAC technician starts before sunrise. At 6:30 AM, I arrive at the Payne Air Conditioning & Heating headquarters to review the day’s service calls. After checking my diagnostic equipment and stocking the service van with common replacement parts, I’m ready to head out to my first call in Lakeland.

Morning Service Calls

The Florida heat doesn’t wait for anyone, and neither do we. My first stop is a routine AC maintenance check in a residential neighborhood. These preventive services are crucial in our climate, where air conditioning runs almost year-round. I inspect the system, clean the coils, and check refrigerant levels – all before 9 AM.

Midday Emergency

Around noon, I receive an urgent call from dispatch about a complete AC failure in Winter Haven. When temperatures soar into the 90s, this becomes a priority situation, especially for households with elderly residents or young children. After diagnosing the issue, I find a failed capacitor – a common problem in our humid climate.

Afternoon Consultations

The afternoon involves meeting with a homeowner in Plant City to discuss a full system replacement. I take time to explain:

• Energy efficiency options
• System sizing calculations
• Installation process
• Financing alternatives
• Maintenance plans

End of Day

Before heading back to headquarters, I complete one final service call in Bartow. After updating service records and restocking my van for tomorrow, I wrap up around 5:30 PM, knowing that our on-call team is ready for any overnight emergencies.

Working in the HVAC industry in Central Florida means being prepared for anything. Whether it’s a furnace replacement in Auburndale during our brief winter or an emergency AC repair in Mulberry, every day brings new challenges and opportunities to help our communities stay comfortable.
